1. "The Definitive Guide To Google
AdWords"
I've just finished reading "The Definitive Guide To Google
AdWords", written by Perry Marshall, and I am very excited to share with you the
main highlights of this outstanding e-book.
You see, this guide taught me very practical lessons about the
world's fastest direct response marketing machine -
and I am very confident that it'll help you too in beating your learning curve with Google AdWords...
How come? Well, glad you've asked!
Secondly, did you know that Google searchers do not respond well to excessive
hype in ads, nor do they respond to messages that are plain and boring?
Apparently, what works well is something in the middle, i.e. your copy has to be
intriguing, but not too pushy! Writing Google texts ads just

the Campaign Manager that says Create New Ad. When you start getting a few clicks
with your first ad campaign, click on it and write a second ad for each
campaign. Make your copy different from your first one. Use the same or similar
words in the ad as in your keyword list. Use different verbs. Vary the
capitalization. Try different concepts.
What it's amazing about all this, is the fact that Google will evenly split the
traffic between your two ads and you can directly compare one against the
other...
After 30-50 clicks, you'll see clear differences between your 2 ads: one gets,
say 0.8% click-through-ratio (CTR) and the other one gets, say 1.2%.
All you'll have
to do is delete the ad with the lower CTR and write a new one, so that you can
compare it against your (control) ad - in order to try beating it again!
The major advantage of this methodology is that in a few weeks' time, depending
on how much time you put into it, every single one of your ads will be the very
best of 10, 20, or even 50 ads.
And every time you improve your ad, you get more targeted traffic without
spending any more money - because Google rewards advertisers with more
relevant ads, i.e. with higher CTRs.
As a matter of fact, this is probably the most dramatic difference between
Google AdWords and say, the other, more conventional pay-per-clicks, such as
Overture or FindWhat.
I don't know about you, but in my case, my business background is not direct response marketing
- I hold an MBA and
thus all the abovementioned considerations were genuine novelties, to me!
In practical terms, what I've done was to go and change all my current campaigns
on Google AdWords. And let me tell you that in several of them, my CTRs improved
dramatically in a matter of a few hours... simply by placing new ads,
side-by-side with the existing ads.
Soon, my new ads became control ads, because they were performing much
better!
